Guide for Authors

Thank you for choosing to submit your manuscript to the European Journal of Veterinary Sciences (EJVS). Please follow these guidelines carefully to ensure a smooth submission and review process.

Before You Begin

Submission Checklist

Before submitting, please ensure you have:

  • [ ] Read the Aims & Scope to confirm your manuscript fits the journal
  • [ ] Prepared your manuscript according to the formatting guidelines below
  • [ ] Included all required sections (title page, abstract, keywords, references)
  • [ ] Formatted references in Vancouver style
  • [ ] Prepared figures and tables in acceptable formats
  • [ ] Written a cover letter to the Editor
  • [ ] Completed the author declaration form
  • [ ] Obtained ethics approval documentation (if applicable)

Manuscript Preparation

General Formatting

  • File format: Microsoft Word (.docx) or LaTeX
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12pt
  • Spacing: Double-spaced throughout
  • Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides
  • Line numbers: Required (continuous)
  • Page numbers: Bottom center

Title Page

The title page should include:

  1. Full title (concise, max 150 characters)
  2. Short running title (max 50 characters)
  3. Author names and affiliations
  4. Corresponding author contact details
  5. ORCID IDs for all authors (recommended)
  6. Word count (abstract and main text separately)

Abstract

  • Structured abstract (max 300 words) with the following headings:
    • Background — context and rationale
    • Methods — study design and approach
    • Results — key findings
    • Conclusion — main implications

Keywords

Provide 4-6 keywords, separated by semicolons. Use terms from the CAB Thesaurus where possible.

Main Text Structure

Original Research Articles

  1. Introduction
  2. Materials and Methods
  3. Results
  4. Discussion
  5. Conclusions
  6. Acknowledgments
  7. References

Review Articles

  1. Introduction
  2. Main body (organized by topic)
  3. Conclusions and Future Directions

Case Reports

References

Use Vancouver (numbered) citation style:

  • Number references consecutively in the order they appear in the text
  • Use superscript numbers in the text
  • List all authors if 6 or fewer; if more than 6, list the first 6 followed by "et al."

Figures and Tables

  • Figures: Submit as separate files (TIFF or EPS, min 300 DPI)
  • Tables: Embed in the manuscript file
  • Number figures and tables consecutively
  • Provide descriptive captions for all figures and tables

Ethical Requirements

Ethics Approval

All research involving animals must have received approval from an appropriate ethics committee. The approval number must be stated in the Methods section.

Conflict of Interest

All authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could be perceived as influencing their work.

Data Availability

Authors are required to include a Data Availability Statement describing how readers can access the data underlying the study.

Submission Process

  1. Register or log in at the EJVS online submission system
  2. Select the appropriate article type
  3. Upload your manuscript and supplementary files
  4. Enter metadata (title, authors, abstract, keywords)
  5. Suggest at least 3 potential reviewers
  6. Submit your cover letter
  7. Confirm and submit

After Submission

  • Acknowledgment: You will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours
  • Initial screening: The editorial office checks for completeness (1-3 days)
  • Peer review: Typically 2-4 weeks for first decision
  • Revision: Authors usually have 4 weeks to submit revised manuscripts
  • Production: Accepted articles are published online within 2 weeks
